Otis Wise Obituary

Otis Cornell Wise, Sr. was born on February 2, 1949, to the late Otis Rudolph Wise and Audrey Latheia Walker. He departed this life on August 7, 2024.

Otis attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, where he excelled academically and showcased his remarkable intellect. Upon graduation, he was recruited into the apprenticeship program at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, Maryland, as an electrical engineer. His dedication and expertise earned him a leadership role in upper management, where he contributed his skills for over 40 years until his retirement.

On January 27, 1968, Otis married Bernice Elaine Carter. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Otis Cornell, Jr., and Michael Maurice. Their marriage lasted until 1982. Later, Otis found love again with his life partner, Davia Renee Moaney, and they remained devoted to each other until his passing.

Otis was a natural problem solver and a highly respected leader at Bethlehem Steel. He served on the leadership team in the electrical engineering department, overseeing intricate wiring and reconstruction projects. His skills and dedication extended beyond his professional life. At the Pleasant Yacht Club, Otis was a vital member, serving as treasurer, electrician, plumber, and even the beloved "Miller Lite Ambassador." His contributions to the club were immeasurable and will be fondly remembered by those who worked alongside him.

Otis had a deep passion for boating and fishing, captaining several vessels including Pretty Penny, Over the Top, and Lady D. During boating season, he cherished the time spent on the water, often accompanied by family and friends, including his Pleasant Yacht Club family. His commitment to punctuality was well-known—Otis was not one to wait if you weren't on time! Highly respected by all who knew him, whether they called him Cornell or Otis, he was often sought after for his leadership, advice, and friendship.

Otis leaves behind a legacy of love and leadership. He was preceded in death by his son Otis Wise Jr. and his brother Daniel Wise. He is survived by his son Michael Wise; his life partner Davia Moaney; his granddaughter Denise Wise; his sisters Bonnie Wise and Paulette Wicks; and his brothers James Wise and David Wise. He is also remembered fondly by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins, friends, and his Pleasant Yacht Club family.

Otis Cornell Wise, Sr., though gone, will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
