On August 4, 1934, God blessed William and Mary Lou Clark with the birth of their son, Henry

Clark, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. Henry was the seventh of ten children, seven of whom

preceded him in death. At an early age, he developed a strong faith, along with the humility and

unwavering work ethic that would become the foundation of a life well lived.

Henry was a devoted servant of God whose life reflected the love of Christ through his words, his

actions, and his commitment to others. He faithfully served his country in the United States Air

Force with honor and distinction from January 1954 through December 1957. After completing

his military service, he continued to answer God's call by serving his church and community with

the same dedication and commitment. As a faithful Deacon of Central Baptist Church for over

fifty years, Henry was known for his quiet strength, compassionate spirit, wise counsel, and

steadfast faith. He believed that every opportunity to serve was a blessing, and he lived each day

striving to glorify God through service to his family, his church, and his community.

On Sunday, July 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and sustained by the grace of

God, Henry peacefully transitioned from labor to reward following a brief illness. While our

hearts grieve his passing, we rejoice in the assurance that he has received the promise of eternal

life and now rests safely in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His legacy of faith,

integrity, kindness, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the countless lives he

touched. Henry graduated from Brawley High School in Scotland Neck, North Carolina before proudly

serving his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, Henry and

Emma made their home in the Ashburton community of Baltimore, Maryland, where together

they lovingly raised their family and established lifelong friendships.

Before beginning his distinguished career with the United States Postal Service, Henry worked

for Hotite Manufacturing Company, where he made heels for shoes; a detail that always brought

a smile to those who heard the story ("go figure"). He later found his calling as a Letter Carrier

with the United States Postal Service, faithfully serving the citizens of Baltimore from 1957 until

his retirement in 1988. His postal route became much more than a job, it became an extension of

His ministry. Henry never met a stranger. His warm smile, genuine interest in others, and gift for

Conversation endeared him to everyone he met. Whether through his work, his church, or his

neighborhood, Henry formed lasting relationships with countless people. He could strike up a

conversation with anyone, anywhere, and often did.

Henry’s Legacy Lives On.

Henry leaves to cherish his precious memory, his devoted children: Diane Yelverton (David),

Sandra Ricks (Robert) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Eric Clark (Jamila), and Vincent Clark

(Yvonne); his beloved grandchildren: Marinda Yelverton of Los Angeles, California, Darren

Yelverton, Drew Yelverton, Brittney Allen (Kenneth) of Daytona Beach, Florida, Kaylyn Clark,

Jordan Clark, and Vincent Clark; the cherished memory of his granddaughter Makayla Clark,

who preceded him in death; his treasured great grandchildren: Camille Yelverton, Kynnedy

Allen, Bryce Allen, and Kayden Allen; his loving brothers: Walter Clark and Morris Clark of

Newport News, Virginia; his sisters in law: Mable Clark of Scotland Neck, North Carolina, Annie

Mae Clark of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Mary McPhaul (John) of Washington, District of

Columbia; his special neighbor and "adopted daughter," Mrs. Charleth "Chi Chi" Whitehead,

whose loving care, companionship, and friendship brought comfort and peace to both Henry and

his family; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church

family, neighbors, and dear friends who will forever cherish his life, his legacy, and the many

memories they shared.
