Elizabeth Amelia peacefully departed this life on August 9, 2023. Elizabeth, affectionately known as “Patsy” to her family, later preferred to be called Liz. She received her early Christian training at home and was educated in Mobile, Alabama Public Schools. Liz had a no-nonsense grandmother who insured that she received her studies and attending Sunday-School and Bible Training Union was a must. After completing high school, Liz became the first black associate at the most talked about department store in Mobile, AL, where she developed her long-standing sense of fashion.
Liz was previously married and from that union, her daughter, Sharonlyn (Sherrie) Jessie was born in March 1955. Liz and Sherrie relocated from Mobile to Baltimore along with her cousin Dorothy and family in 1963. She was employed at Two Guys department store until her cousin helped her get a job at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she was employed until she retired.
Not too long after coming to Baltimore, Liz met a Baltimore City Police Officer, Donald “Crip” Robinson, who adored and loved to spoil Liz. The two were united in marriage in 1972 and were devoted members of Mount Pleasant Church and Ministries, where they served diligently for years. Bishop Johnson appointed Donald and Liz as the first couple to lead the Youth and Young Adult Department, a role they held for over 15 years. Even after Donald’s passing, Liz remained devoted to helping the youth at the church until her health kept her from doing so.
Liz was known for sending thoughtful cards and sharing “the Word” via those cards. She exuded the love of Jesus and always looked forward to visiting with and talking to loved-ones. If you ever called her and she didn’t answer, you knew: “Jesus loves you!”
Liz was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Leo Jr.; her husband, Donald L. Robinson; and her daughter Sharonlyn R. Jessie. She will sorely be missed by her two favorite cousins Dorothy York, and Celeste Hill; and her only godchild Tia Butler, whom she named. Liz will also be missed by special Mount Pleasant youth who were like her children: Frank Ellis, Kim Stevens, Sandy Nole, and Lenard “LA” Akles; grandchildren Stephen and Patricia Smith; and great-grandchildren Olivia, Zyair and Elijah. Liz also leaves several good girlfriends who she talked on the phone with regularly, a host of other cousins, extended family, church members, extra-ordinary neighbors and many friends to cherish her memories.
